Alice "Granny" Sparks, a longtime resident of Dewar was born August 29, 1919 in Carbon Hill, Alabama to Rosa and William Pennington. She passed away July 20, 2008 in Dewar, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years 10 months and 21 days. She married Buster Sparks in Eufaula, Oklahoma on October 3, 1937. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Dewar First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bus Sparks in 2001, a son, Johnny Sparks 1972, a daughter-in-law, Linda Kay Sparks, her parrents, Mr. Mrs. William Pennington, 3 brothers & 2 sisters.
She is survived by 1 son, Cecil Sparks, Hitchita, Oklahoma;
1 daughter, Wilma Sprouse & husband John, Dewar, Oklahoma;
4 grandchildren, Gary Wayne Sparks & wife Lynn, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma;
Jeff Sparks and wife Amy, Kearney, Missouri;
Tony Sprouse, Tulsa, Oklahoma;
Sherri Whitlow & husband Mike, Dewar, Oklahoma;
10 great grandchildren: Ashley Hancock, Kelli Sparks, Sarah Sparks, Hailey Sparks, Dillon Caywood, Nick Caywood, Rhett Whitlow, Ty Whitlow, Baylee Sparks, & Taylor Sparks
As well as a host of friends and other relatives
Pallbearers will be Gary Sparks, Jeff Sparks, Sherri Whitlow, Tony Sprouse, Dillion Caywood, and Nickolas Caywood. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dee Tabor, Harold Dean Bardin, Dwight Grady, and Heidi Williams.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 11:00 am at Dewar First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jack Vance. Burial will be at Council Hill Cemetery under the direction of
Shurden Funeral Home.
